Pre-College Entrance - PSAT, PLAN & Explore
The PSAT/NMSQT is sponsored by the College Board and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. It provides students an opportunity to practice for the SAT I, because questions and format are very similar. The 11th grade administration of this test is also the first step in entering the National Merit Foundation Competition. It is the only year your score is considered for the competition. Any high school junior or sophomore interested in the PSAT should sign up in the Main Office or Guidance Office. A small fee is required.
The PLAN was developed for sophomores by the American College Testing Program (ACT). The actual test parallels the ACT. It also includes an assessment of study skills and can help students identify areas where they may wish to develop more effective study habits. PLAN also includes an interest inventory for career planning as well as a post test analysis for students and parents. All sophomores in Lawton will be administered the PLAN in October for no charge.
The EXPLORE program is administered to all eighth grade students and is designed to stimulate career exploration and facilitate development of a plan for the student's high school academic program. Like all of ACT's assessment programs, EXPLORE is based on the belief that young people-and their parents, teachers, counselors and school administrators-will make more productive plans and decisions if they have organized relevant information available when they need it most. In addition to school and career planning, EXPLORE also measures academic progress in English, math, reading and science reasoning.
