The History of John Adams Elementary

John Adams Elementary School, named after the second president of the United States, is a Pre-Kindergarten through Sixth grade facility located at 3501 N.W. Ferris Avenue in Lawton, Oklahoma. John Adams School was completed in 1955 at a cost of $197,700 on a 4.18 acre site that was donated by developer Jack Greer. Enrollment has been increasing, and currently, there are 15 certified staff and 9 support staff members teaching the 276 children who attend John Adams.

Mr. James Roberts was the first principal. Other principals in order of service were Paul Crisp, Jim Jones, Howard Smith, Marcille Southerland Covey, Ken Baden, Bertha Slaughter, Cathy Blodget, Kaye Hicks, Tony Hooper, Harold McCann, and the present principal, Tamara Horschler.
